Dinner and a Playlist: SF’s Turntable Kitchen Pairs Tasty Recipes with Even Tastier Vinyl

The folks over at Turntable Kitchen are doing a wonderful job combining two of my favorite things in life; vinyl records and food. This month the San Francisco based food and music blog is launching their first ever pairings box.

Kasey and Matthew Hickey are the inspiring couple behind the idea of a “curated food and music discovery experience, delivered to your door, every month.” While the idea of combining food and music together is nothing new, Turntable Kitchen takes it a step further and makes it an experience. It’s one of the best ideas in recent memory to keep something tangible in music lovers hands while enhancing their overall experience and delighting the senses.

Dayton, Ohio’s Motel Beds is the first artist to be featured in the pairings box. Turntable Kitchen is releasing the band’s first vinyl 7″ featuring Motel Beds’ lo-fi, warm, and fuzzy gem of a song “Western Son” along with the B-Side “UK Surfjerk.” The vinyl single is on brilliant white vinyl and comes hand numbered with a limited release of 250.

If you are not familiar with Motel Beds, you surely will be by years end. In February the band released their latest shoe-gaze, pop friendly full length Sunfried Dreamsand later this month they are playing the No More Fake Labels showcase at CMJ.

What else is included along in the pairings box along with your vinyl experience?

  • A limited-edition, hand-numbered 7-inch vinyl single featuring a pair of tracks by one of TK’s favorite artists/bands.
  • An exclusive, downloadable TK-curated digital mixtape packed with some of the most exciting up-and-coming new artists we’ve listened to.
  • A collection of three seasonal, themed recipes for you to try. Think: Fall Brunch, A Russian December Dinner, etc.
  • 1-2 premium dried ingredients for you to make 2-4 servings of each dish or drink (depending on each month’s theme). Each month, they’ll feature a special spice, flour, grain, or bean you’ll need to pull together a fabulous meal for yourself and a few friends.

All this greatnesss comes alongside suggested pairings, tasting notes, and additional insights into the music and food that they are sharing with you. Check out the process of putting together the pairing boxes here.

What do you think of the pairings idea? Have you listened to Motel Beds? Share your thoughts and join the conversation below in the comments box. Happy pairing!
