The Black Seeds:
The TVD First Date

“My favourite record store in New Zealand is called Conch, and it’s located in a suburb called Ponsonby in Auckland.”

“I like it for several reasons. Ultimately, they stock the kind of music I like: reissues of 60’s/70’s world music obscurities and the like. And they are great sales people for the music I’ve put out under different monikers, especially when it comes to putting it in the hands of people from out of town that come through the shop.

It’s also a great hub for the musical community I tend to associate with in general, so it’s nice to know I’m likely to bump into some friends there when I’m in town.

The last record I bought there, to my memory, was Palenque Palenque – just another great comp from Soundway, whose releases I’m a big fan of, and whose output remains extremely consistent.

The other record store I really love in New Zealand is Slowboat where I live in Wellington. The store has been around for as long as I’ve been into records, and they have a great range of second hand. I usually spend as much time yarning to the ever-entertaining Jeremy Taylor as I do looking for records.

My only real dream in making music has been to have my shit pressed to wax, which is somewhat more of an undertaking in New Zealand due to the extra expense of shipping.

But in the last twelve months I’ve had three full albums I’ve released pressed: The Black Seeds latest album, Dust And Dirt, my solo album under the alias Lord Echo, Melodies, and a collaborative album with fellow New Zealander Lawrence Arabia under the name Fabulous/Arabia, Unlimited Buffet.

So, with all my dreams now come true, I am officially renouncing music and getting an office job.”
