TVD’s The Idelic Hour with Jon Sidel

Greetings from Laurel Canyon!

While I’m tapping into every kind of Summer playlist that comes to mind, why not bring you a set of feel good Summer songs? Who knows, maybe it will bring out the warm sun. (It’s been rather chilly here this past week.)

This week’s Idelic muse comes in the form of a classic line from one of California’s most classic songs: “Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a happenin’ with you…”

Early in the week I caught some rare studio footage of the Beach Boys in the studio cutting “Good Vibrations.” Word has it that Mike Love wrote the final lyrics driving down Sunset Boulevard on a Summer’s eve, forty seven years ago.

The song, like the Beach Boys, is a pure taste of “California magic.” “Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a happenin’ with you…” The song got me daydreaming, what is it that makes a vibe?

vibration: a characteristic emanation, aura, or spirit that infuses or vitalizes someone or something and that can be instinctively sensed or experienced —often used in plural.

The word itself implies a wave, such as a wave file of music. What better way to start a good vibe than with a song—and where better to keep those “lovin good vibrations going” than with an Idelic Hour of cool tunes.

Enjoy the first weekend of August—and hey!—Happy Birthday, Jonah Sidel!
