“I’m sorry and don’t mean to offend, but all my most intense experiences have been with vinyl nearby. That’s why Champion Lover only wants to release vinyl or pure digital. Like any romance, it’s either about intense emotional connection or convenience. Everything in-between is just a shitty compromise.
I guess that’s why I’m so happy when my vinyl comes with a digital download and why I’m still pissed that no Bass Drum of Death album includes the digital pack-in. C’mon guys, we need your music at all places, at all times, on all mediums and I don’t think I should have to buy the same record twice (unless I’m doing a battle set).
Still, there’s no way to understate the hypnotic power of vinyl. I played MP3s of Attack on Memory by Cloud Nothings for my girlfriend countless times and she never noticed them.
The first time the 12” spun she was obsessed with it. By the time “Wasted Days” (second song) was half over. I’ve watched the same thing happen with friends over the years with Bleach by Nirvana …and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars …and 36 Chambers …and playing “It’s Going To Be A Long Night” by Ween (off of Quebec) really loud …and Cross by Justice ….and it goes on, but it’s clear to us that the connection to vinyl is bigger than cover art—large enough to get high off of.”
