“Flipping through a stack of albums and giving real thought to which record to pull, being focused on the mood and zooming in on a particular set of songs is a really satisfying feeling. Little things like hearing the needle grab. I think it keeps you in the moment with whatever artist or album you were (consciously or not) seeking out at a particular moment.”
“I really like making a pot of coffee and listening back to a record as it was intended to be heard by the people who made it. In order. In its own particular vibe. Meaning: Here, this is what we did. That’s certainly what we wanted to do with Shelter.
It’s easy to shuffle and random play today, and that can also be a good way to discover new stuff to some degree. But the physicality of going to a record store and moving up and down the isles, seeing what other people are picking up, new and old, hearing what’s playing in the store; has a sense of community to it that makes you feel like you’re all sort of in it together.
