The Bay Area’s resident gypsy pop artist, Lynx, released her full length album Light up Your Lantern in late 2013. The album has just found a vinyl incarnation via the good folks at Feedbands who have released a gorgeous yellow pressing of the record.
If you have yet to be exposed to the epic images, netherworld lyricism, and sparse trip hop acoustics of her music, your first impression might be that she has descended from the ballad-lands of North England or perhaps the tribes of Ireland. Battle worn scenes of crumbling walls, cataclysmic floods and other apocalyptical earth changes saturate the 10 tracks, only letting up for the excellent paper mache romance of “Picture.”

With a sound that is both timely and timeless, Lynx has tapped into an influential niche, tracing the origins of folk to a more cutting edge canvas for the new millennium. Her music echoes the past so deeply it enters the present without losing its vibratory power, providing one of the best vinyl releases this year, and an overall incredibly moving experience for the listener.
