Warren, OH | Celebrate Record Store, Record People day on Black Friday: …Record People Day is the brainchild of Dean Anshutz and Adam Berry, owners of Cycle Breakers Records and Tapes inside Westside Bowl in Youngstown. …nstead of folks showing up hours before doors open in hopes of buying one of those rare releases, Record People Day is planned as a more informal gathering from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24. There will be about eight to 10 record vendors, including other retail shops like Underdog in Hubbard and Fat Hippy in Brookfield, pizza, giveaways and music from the Peppermint Pals (Anshutz of Red Wanting Blue and Anthony LaMarca of The War on Drugs spinning records made in the region). “We just want it to be a fun, record-store hang,” Anshutz said.

Spokane, WA | There’s much to choose from at local record shops on Black Friday: Every day is record store day for Taylor Swift. However, the ubiquitous pop star isn’t issuing a new release for Black Friday. That’s not music to retailers ears. However, there is a consolation, which is 200 new albums, which will drop Friday and there are an array of recently released box sets and albums. The big seller at Resurrection Records is nu-metal. “Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn and Incubus are selling well right now,” Resurrection Records owner Mike House said. “There’s a nu-metal resurgence.” House grew up with nu-metal while coming of age in the South Hill. “That’s what I listened to in middle school,” House said. “But it’s not like people my age (33) are buying Limp Bizkit. It’s the kids of those who grew up on it 25 years ago who are buying it.” 4000 Holes owner Bob Galllagher concurs. “We’ve been selling a lot of Limp Bizkit and other nu-metal and will probably do so on Record Store Day.”

Lubbock, TX | Lubbock’s Josey Records dumps thousands of books after closing Tuesday evening: Lubbockites flocked to salvage thousands of discarded books from garbage containers Wednesday after a closing store apparently trashed some inventory following their final day in business Tuesday. After five years as a stop for book lovers and record collectors in Lubbock, Josey Records near 82nd Street and Slide Road announced Sept. 11 that it would close its Lubbock location. After weeks of progressively marking down books up to 90% off, the retailer’s final day came on Nov. 15 when the store locked its doors for the last time. About 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, Danielle Demetria, the executive director of the East Lubbock Art House, posted photos on Facebook showing what appeared to be thousands of books in dumpsters and grocery carts, saying the books are free. The post had been shared more than 1,000 times by late Wednesday afternoon. By 4:30 p.m., dozens of dumpster-divers were salvaging books behind the store.

Majorca, SP | Palma has amazed me: At the shop with … Silas de Corrals. Just next to La Rambla where it meets OMS you will find C/ Sant Elies. Walk down to number 8 and you will find Silas de Corrals in his small specialist second hand vinyl and recording studio, Got Blues Listen To Jazz. He specialises in Jazz and Blues Lp’s, 12’s, 10’s & 7’s. …What are your customers like? It’s 50/50 locals and tourists. Lots of Germans, English, Norwegians. And I have regulars who come in. And I trade and buy records as well. I sell in person, and I sell online on the internet as well. I ship across Europe. Has there been a vinyl revival? I’ve always bought records. So for me in a way, I haven’t seen a revival. But I think that the bubble will burst soon. There are too many reissues coming out. There’s too many musicians making and selling their own records, which in the end they realise is a lot more hassle than it’s worth. But also there’s loads of new music coming out. I mean, loads of old music being discovered that people didn’t know before.

Dallas, TX | Meet the Dallas Coffee Shop with a Cereal Bar and Vinyl Collection: This coffee shop and record store hybrid delivers on drinks, music and atmosphere. The Spin Coffee & Vinyl, a hybrid coffee and music store in Far North Dallas, has the kind of ambiance people make ASMR videos trying to replicate: a cozy coffee shop with a record player spinning oldies. That search on YouTube brings up over 5 million results. Those do in a pinch if you’re trying to fall asleep, but what Spin has going for it is a little harder to replicate. The menu at the coffee shop side of things is simple, sticking to the familiar drinks you’ll find in most cafes. Three-dollar lattes and cappuccinos while perusing albums isn’t a bad deal at all. There are also chai, teas and espresso shots. The presentation of the drinks is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. The coffee cups have rims that spiral and swoop outward. This not only feels visually in line with the vinyl record theme but also makes it easier to sip out of a completely full cup.

New Westminster, CA | Enjoy beer and music at Analog Vinyl Fair in New West on Saturday: Analog Vinyl Fair and After Dark return to New Westminster: Shop for vinyl albums, hear some great music and enjoy some tasty beer. Vinyl vendors, tunes and beer—it’s all on tap at the return of the Analog Vinyl Fair. On Saturday, Nov. 18, Steel & Oak Brewing Co. will press play on Analog Vinyl Fair, bringing record collectors, beer lovers and music enthusiasts from across Metro Vancouver to New Westminster for an evening of beer, music, and vinyl. Steel & Oak launched the Analog Vinyl Fair back in 2016. “We’re always excited to host this event for the New West and broader music and vinyl communities,” said Jordan Brett of Steel & Oak. “This is our most anticipated event of the year, in which we get to share our passion for vinyl, good music and beer with the local community. It’s our first time hosting Analog After Dark, which will be a great way to meet new people and celebrate all things vinyl.”

Berlin, NJ | Victor Vault looks to the future in the city where the recording industry was born: You could say that Graham Alexander, who had a successful run on Broadway playing Paul McCartney in the Beatles tribute shows “Rain” and “Let it Be,” is on his own Got Back Tour these days. The musician-turned-music entrepreneur is surprised that his South Jersey music venue the Victor Vault is still cranking out live shows. And even more amazing is that his dream to create a profitable artisanal music company out of the ashes of RCA Victor, the oldest and perhaps most famous brand in the music industry, remains viable. Just a couple of years ago, it looked like the COVID lockdown was going to destroy everything Alexander had spent a grueling decade building as CEO of Victor Musical Industries, Inc., in Camden. “Right around June of 2020, I just remember sitting at my desk, flabbergasted, thinking’ How are we going to push through?’” he said.

Slayer Announce ‘Show No Mercy’ 40th Anniversary Vinyl with Fake Liquid Blood: It might just be the coolest Slayer collectible ever. In 1983, thrash metal titans Slayer unleashed Show No Mercy, their unrelenting debut album. The record put the California band on the map, and served as part of the blueprint for thrash metal. Now, four decades later, the album is being celebrated in the most Slayer way possible. Originally released by Metal Blade Records, the label will be be unleashing two unique pieces of vinyl: a limited edition “blood” filled liquid vinyl, which is limited to 250 pieces worldwide, and the Show No Mercy 40th Anniversary Edition vinyl box set that includes a Gold Black Dust LP mastered for vinyl from the original master tapes by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, a slipmat cover, poster, show flyers, signing card, and an LP booklet featuring the story of Show No Mercy, written by J. Bennett.

This Turntable Is the Perfect Pick for a Beginner Collector: If you’re looking for a solid entry-level turntable, Audio-Technica’s AT-LP60XBT could be right for you. …This entry-level turntable delivered on everything I needed. It’ll set you back $219, which is more expensive than suitcase record players, but for a high-quality turntable, it’s a pretty reasonable price. The AT-LP60XBT is easy to move — mine has withstood four moves over the last three years, and all the shuffling hasn’t compromised its quality. Most important, it delivers great sound, and keeps my records nice and safe. I take comfort in knowing that I can spin my favorite LPs and I won’t have to worry about my turntable inflicting damage on my records. The AT-LP60XBT is Bluetooth capable, so all you’ll need is a solid bluetooth speaker, and you’ll be set. Though the turntable doesn’t come with speakers, you can purchase a speaker and turntable bundle on Amazon. I was in college when I bought my turntable, and I purchased the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 (which has been discontinued, but the Wonderboom 3 will do the trick just the same).
