PHOTOS: CHRIS RUDY | I suppose we’d be forgiven if by now, heading into its 6th year, the DC Record Fair were to be flying on autopilot, but that’s not how we embark on each and every show. The thinking has been, how do we better the experience each time out of the gate? 800 of you came through the doors on Sunday to see what was in store. (OK, 801 counting an unplanned cameo from Reggie Watts. That was cool.)
Our hosts at Artisphere in Rosslyn, Virginia well timed our return to their environs with the soundscape installation entitled Fermata, which saw many a crate digger taking a breather amidst cozy bean bag chairs and a literal wall of sound as accompaniment.
Producer and musician Chad Clark of DC’s Beauty Pill was joined in a Q&A session by one of Fermata’s curators, Ryan Holliday of Bluebrain. After a screening of the film Led Zeppelin Played Here, doc director Jeff Krulik participated in a chat with Mr. Ian Mackaye…DID Lez Zeppelin play in the Wheaton, MD Youth Center? Apparently the jury is still out.
We tasked TVD photographer Chris Rudy with running around the event and documenting the day in photos and the fruits of his labor extend below.
And, if you’re wondering, the DC Record Fair returns to DC and Penn Social in January 2015. Plenty of time for you to set aside some cash, hm?
