Foburg Music Festival,
A Closer Look

Alright, kiddies. Earlier I gave you a brief rundown of Foburg and its backstory along with a few highlights to look out for this year. Tomorrow the third annual Foburg Music Festival officially gets underway, so let’s take a closer look at some of the showcases, and the curators who kick butt to make it all happen.

On Friday night the offerings seem a tad overwhelming. Let’s break it down.

noirCollective presentsProm Date, Bantam Foxes, and Rareluth – the festival organizers host their own showcase of artists upstairs at the Blue Nile. And it’s free. Who better to coordinate a great lineup than the group who’s concocted the New Orleans Indie Rock Fest since 2008? 9pm (free) Showcase Details

Easy Apple & The Vinyl District present | Aunt Martha, Shayfer James, Black Taxi, and King Rey – where New York meets New Orleans, this lineup includes Shayfer James, tweeted and retweeted as “Best Act of Foburg!” last year. With a return visit from Brooklyn’s Black Taxi and free seafood gumbo for your tummy, yours truly is hosting a really fun time at AllWays Lounge. 9Pm ($6 cover/free with foburg wristband) Showcase Details

Openhouse Music presentsHurray For The Riff Raff, Il Abanico, DJ YRS TRLY – OK, so I’m a little jealous I’m missing yet another Hurray For The Riff Raff show (“Daaaniellaa!”), but luckily most venues are close enough for a night of show hopping. Is that a dare? Notable Nola Promoter, Openhouse Music brings this bill to Cafe Istanbul. 9Pm ($7 cover/free with foburg wristband)

Saturday night hosts foburg’s headliners, so if you plan to do multiple shows, plan accordingly.

Chinquapin Records presentsMaps & Atlases, Sun Hotel, and Caddywhompus – Is there anything I should say about the biggest show of the festival? One Eyed Jacks 9pm ($12/free with foburg wristband)

WTUL 91.5fm presents | A shit-ton of bands/DJs including Jonesbirds, Jim-E Stack, Nicky Da B – The coolest coastal college station is known for presenting the coolest little indie shows, and this time they take over Michalopoulos Studio on Elysian Fields. Don’t forget about all the food trucks that will be on site! – 2pm ($5 cover/free with foburg wristband)

Simple Play presentsJ Roddy Walston & The Business, The Features, David Vandervelde, and Coyotes – From the concert production company that’s brought you headliners since 2006, a new favorite of mine, J Roddy, is invading Maison (downstairs) for a free show featuring The Features. And the boys pull it off again… 9pm (free)

The final night doesn’t slow down at all. True pacing is in order to last through Sunday.

Open House Music presentsTiny Victories, Happy New Year, and DJ YRS TRLY – This will be OHM’s fourth showcase of the weekend, and given that Tiny Victories is headlining it, this will be the one I don’t miss. The Maison (Penthouse) is a great spot to call it a night. 9pm (cover TBA)

Wolves, Where? presentsWolves, Where?, Summer People, Sports + Leisure, Hot Cha Cha – Local band presents its own party (I love the initiative!) with one of my previous mentions, Sports + Leisure. Ariane Approved. Hi Ho Lounge 9pm ($5 cover/free with foburg wristband)

Open House Music presentsLittle Maker, Backwords, and Me You Us Them – Over at Saturn Bar you can catch Micah McKee’s latest ensemble along with Brooklyn’s Me You Us Them, whom eMusic has highly recommended. 9Pm ($5 cover/free with foburg wristband)

Foburg weekend wrist bands are $25, and this year you’ll get the added perks of foburg.film and foburg.comedy. For details on these new additions visit foburg online.
