TVD Radar: Aesop Rock, “Daylight” EP reissue in stores 3/29

VIA PRESS RELEASE | Aesop Rock has announced a reissue of his classic 2002 EP “Daylight,” coming March 29 from Rhymesayers Entertainment on vinyl, cassette, and CD formats.

The original tracklist for “Daylight” EP boasted seven songs (plus a hidden track, making a total of eight) that collectively featured production by EL-P, Blockhead, and Aesop Rock himself, as well as a guest verse from Blueprint. The full EP was originally only available in CD and digital formats, with the vinyl abridged to a three-song 12”. The new reissue presents the complete eight songs on vinyl for the first time ever, pressed on two-color side A/B effect orange and blue vinyl to complement the original artwork.

Originally released in 2002, the “Daylight” EP was the follow-up to Aesop Rock’s critically-acclaimed Labor Days album, a cult classic released only six months prior. The EP was built around its titular opening song, “Daylight,” a standout track from Labor Days that has persevered as one of Aesop’s most beloved works, and continued expanding upon the range and depth of his multi-talented gifts for writing and producing.

In addition to the title track, “Daylight” EP also included its counterpoint, “Night Light,” an alternate version in concept whose paraphrased lyrics refer back and stand in stark opposition to the original’s, delivered over a darker, more menacing production. Expanding on this contrast, a limited vinyl variant called “Night Light” will be available for purchase, featuring tri-color (blue, silver, and black) galaxy effect vinyl, housed in a foil-stamped and numbered jacket. Pre-orders for the various formats and exclusive merch designs are available now from aesoprock.com.

The reissue announcement arrives on the heels of last year’s Integrated Tech Solutions, arguably Aesop’s most expansive and psychedelic album to date. The multi hyphenate artist recently shared a self-drawn and animated video for the album’s meditation on artistic discipline “Pigeonometry”

In keeping with the its thematic origins, the album’s fictional corporate namesake (not a cult) issued the following statement on the video: “A results-driven assessment of one of our world’s most dismissed avian gifts. Peek behind the curtain of the ITS Da Vinci Hypercloud™ as two of our counselors trade tech solutions, ultimately cutting off a potential line of innovation to benefit the greater good.”
