Elton John named “Worldwide Record Store Day Legend”; will release expanded vinyl edition of his “fabulous” live album on RSD: In honor of the 10th anniversary of Record Store Day, one of the world’s foremost record fans, Elton John, is joining in the fun. Not only has he been named the first ever “Worldwide Record Store Legend,” but he’s releasing a very special item for the occasion. Elton will issue an expanded, vinyl version of his classic early live album 17-11-70, called 17-11-70+. The two-disc collection features seven bonus performances not included on the original album.

Sunrise Records to take over HMV stores in Saskatoon: An Ontario record store is taking a chance on vinyl sales in Saskatoon. Sunrise Records will take over the HMV stores at Lawson Heights and Midtown Plaza once the HMV spaces are officially vacant. In total, the retailer will take over 70 HMV stores across Canada. Sunrise Records currently has nine stores in Ontario. “We are excited to bring Sunrise nationwide, and would like to thank all of the suppliers and landlords who worked so closely with us to allow us to be a destination for physical music in Canada,” Doug Putman, president of Sunrise Records, said in a statement.

Streaming now makes up half of all U.S. music revenue: For the first time, streaming is the dominant revenue source —giving rise to such performers as hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper, who famously built a strong national following by releasing songs himself on digital streaming services. He begins a massive U.S. stadium tour this summer without signing to a major music label. Fans just found him online…The only other growth came from vinyl record sales — up 4 percent — but that remains very much a niche product.

Bar review: The Record Cafe, Bradford: It cost me rather more than most albums do, and certainly more than a download, but the triple-gatefold 12-inch record in pristine heavyweight vinyl which I bought at the Record Cafe is already one of my very favourite things. I’m playing it now, as it happens. North Parade always used to be the street for luxury goods in Bradford city centre; its shops were always a cut above. And when I chanced upon this place during a spare and thirsty hour I was immediately taken by the concept of a bar where you can drink great beer, graze on interesting charcuterie food, and browse old-style racks of records. It’s a good job I don’t live closer; I could spend a fortune in here.

Pour House Offers Trip To Dogfish Head Brewery On Record Store Day: The Pour House will host a Record Store Day event on Thursday, April 20, 4 p.m.-midnight. Dogfish Head is the official beer of Record Store Day, which was first created in 2007 during a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate the culture of nearly 14,000 record stores nationwide…As the official beer, Dogfish Head will be rolling out out its Crosley Cruiser so craft beer fans can wander through the gallery on wheels, listen to indie music, view original beer-inspired artwork and enter a raffle for a chance to win an iconic Crosley record player.
