Dallas, TX | Vinyl records and manga comics store to open in Dallas Cedars District: There’s a new shop opening in Dallas dedicated to records and comics: Called Black Cat Records N Comics it’ll be a pop culture destination combining music and manga, located at 971 Botham Jean Blvd., slated to open in the fall. Black Cat is a collaboration between Megan Daniel, who possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of anime and manga; and Guy Steele, a longtime collector and movie buff who previously owned well known stores such as The Movie Collection, Stage & Screen, and Vintage Salvation, a vinyl record stand located inside Dolly Python. “The store will be a unique mix,” Steele says. “We’ll have records and comics, with a wide selection for listeners and readers of all ages, but some with a special focus.” They’ll have the newest and most popular comics, but especially underground and indie publishers, including foreign prints.

Dumfries, UK | Dumfries record shop boss reveals some “real gems” in donated vinyl collection: Domino Records owner Rab Smith took in a batch of vinyls including rare recordings by Buddy Holly and Elvis. Record shop boss Rab Smith reckons he has uncovered some “real gems” in a donated collection and rates them as one of the best finds ever. The owner of Domino Records at the Whitesands in Dumfries recently took in a batch of vinyl which includes a couple of rare recordings by Buddy Holly and another from Elvis Presley. They are in original sleeves from long defunct Dumfries store Semple and Ferguson and Rab, 70, is ecstatic about the find. He said: “They are real gems and Buddy Holly’s ‘Every Day’ could be from 1955/56. “The two records are some of the best to come to the shop.”

Chapel Hill, NC | ‘We are open to everybody’: A look inside the UNC Music Library: Located on the first floor of Wilson Library, the UNC Music Library is home to collections of easy-access music recordings, vinyl records and a variety of study spaces — all open to the University community. …One of the library’s most popular features is its vinyl collection and turntables, Steinhaus said. The library hosts over 23,000 vinyl records, which patrons can check out online to play at home or listen to on the turntables at the Music Library. The vinyl collection includes work by various artists, from Johnny Cash to J. Cole. Senior Mallory Sokolove also spoke about the popularity of the turntables. As a student assistant at the UNC Music Library, Sokolove is often the first face visitors see to ask questions or for help with navigating its online catalog, she said. “We get a lot of people using the turntables,” Sokolove said. “We’re a place to just chill and listen to music while you study.”

Lenco put a fresh spin on their new range of turntables: Audio masters Lenco launch their new 400 range of record players in a variety of finishes – complete with Bluetooth and built-in speakers. Audio manufacturers Lenco have launched their new range of turntables in the shape of the 400 series. The record player range are all belt-driven and have in-built speakers and come in five different finishes: The LS-410 has a wooden finish, the LS-430 comes in either black or brown, while the LS-440 boasts a blue or grey fabric finish. The 400 range include high-quality Audio Technica cartridges, while the LS-430 and LS-440 models are equipped with pitch control. Lenco say in a statement: “For the ideal home setup, the new range of turntables each include four built in speakers – two 15-Watt and two 10-Watt with built – delivering an extremely balanced sound. “Setup is simple with no additional speakers, wires or amplifier required as users simply need to plug in and put their favourite vinyl on.”

El-P Treats Solo Album Catalogue to Deluxe Vinyl Reissues: Celebrate the respective 20th, 15th and 10th anniversaries of ‘Fantastic Damage,’ ‘I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead’ and ‘Cancer 4 Cure’ After announcing plans to bring his catalogue back to vinyl at the tail end of 2019, El-P has detailed new deluxe vinyl reissues of his solo releases. Next month, the Run the Jewels MC and producer will celebrate the respective 20th, 15th and 10th anniversaries of his 2002 solo debut Fantastic Damage, 2007’s I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead and 2012’s Cancer 4 Cure. All three albums will come back to wax as limited edition, 2xLP coloured vinyl editions via Fat Possum Records. The label previously handled digital reissues of Fantastic Damage and I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead in 2020, marking the DSP debut of both those efforts. Adele’s 30 tops IFPI’s global album all format chart for 2021: Adele‘s 30 has been crowned the IFPI‘s winner of its Global Album All Format Chart for 2021. 30 also tops the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart, as well as the inaugural IFPI Global Vinyl Album Chart. 30 is the fourth studio album from Adele, and was released on November 19, 2021. After its release on Friday October 15, Adele’s comeback single Easy On Me became the most streamed song globally on Spotify in a single day, breaking BTS’s Spotify record for day-one plays in the process. 30 went on to reach No.1 in over 20 markets, including the US, where it became Adele’s third album to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following its release in November 2021, 30 surpassed over 5 million physical album equivalent units in 2021 in under two months, says IFPI. The album continues its streak by topping all three of IFPI’s Global Album Charts – the Global Album All Format Chart (introduced last year and won by 2021’s Global Recording Artist Of The Year, BTS), the Global Album Sales Chart and the first-ever Global Vinyl Album Chart.
