Edinburgh, UK | Taylor Swift UK tour 2023: Remembering when Taylor Swift gave a small Edinburgh record store a helping hand: Signed CDs sold out within two hours, providing a huge boost for store during lockdown. Taylor Swift announced this week she will be playing two gigs in Edinburgh next year when her Eras tour arrives in the UK – and the news will have brought back happy memories for a local independent record store, who once received a helping hand from the global superstar. In September 2020, when the shop was struggling during lockdown, Assai Records on Grindlay Street received a surprise when they got a ‘very finite’ amount of the singer’s album Folklore. Believed to be a show of support for independent record stores, a select few shops across the UK also received a delivery of the signed disks. After announcing the shop had stock of the limited signed CD, copies of the album had sold out in less than two hours, which was a huge shot in the arm for the business during tough times for trading.

Chatteris, UK | GoFundMe to send vinyl collection from Chatteris to Canada: A fundraiser has been launched with the hope of fulfilling a 97-year-old man dying wish—for a vinyl fan to “appreciate and enjoy his music collection.” Geoffrey Gardner, who is on ‘end of life’ life care, has been a big band and jazz music fan all his life and been collecting records since he was 14 so has amassed a massive collection. After living in March since the early 1950s, he moved to his daughter Pam Joyce’s home in Chatteris last year so she could care for him. When the family emptied his house, they put all his records and memorabilia into storage. Pam said: “We have tried many places to find someone who would want to take the collection and appreciate it, and we were giving it – not selling – to a good home. “However, nobody was interested as that genre of music from the 30s and 40s is not in trend at the moment. “Dad’s dying wish is for someone to appreciate and enjoy his music collection.”
