Liverpool, UK | Liverpool store recognised as the oldest independent record shop in the UK: The Musical Box Record Shop unveiled its blue plaque on Saturday, which recognises the store as the Uk’s oldest independent record shop. Established in 1947, the family-run business is now in its 4th generation, presently being ran by Tony and Paula Cain. The story starts with music-lover Dorothy, who bought the shop after the war in 1947. She started selling 78rpm records, progressing to selling other musical items such as sheet music and guitar strings. Paula said: “Dorothy always wanted a record shop, this used to be a fancy goods shop selling sensory records, but when the LP came in and Rock’n’roll went popular, she phased off the fancy goods and made its soul a record shop.”
Houston, TX | Sound Revolution marks 49 years of keeping vinyl culture alive: For nearly half a century, Sound Revolution has been more than just a record store; it has been a gathering place for generations of music lovers. Founded by Sunne Walton’s mother in 1976, the local record store is now carried on by Walton and her fiance Scott Waldrum, who expanded the family legacy with a second location in Spring in 2018. What’s special about it? Walton spent her teenage years shuffling through records and stocking inventory under her mother’s guidance at Sound Revolution. At the time, Walton said she had no idea she would someday be the backbone of the business. Waldrum said he came in as co-owner in August to operate the Spring location while Walton focused on operating the location in Cypress.

Dallas, TX | Step Inside One of the World’s Largest U2 Collections—and Meet the Dallas CEO Behind It: BAL’s Jeremy Fudge has spent decades amassing his memorabilia collection worth millions of dollars. One day, he hopes to turn it into a museum. t all began with a purple vinyl record. Jeremy Fudge was four years out of law school and had been a U2 fan since older friends in his church youth group introduced him to the band. He went to several concerts in his teen and college years and learned to play the drums by modeling himself after U2’s Larry Mullen Jr. In 2004, a purple seven-inch vinyl of the U2 song “All I Want Is You” caught his eye on eBay. Fudge decided to splurge—not knowing at the time that the item would become highly collectible. More importantly, it marked the beginning of a journey that would eventually establish him as one of the world’s top U2 memorabilia collectors.
It’s impossible not to stare at this mesmerising optical illusion vinyl: Optical illusions come in many different forms, from the perplexing to the mind-melting, but op art doesn’t always have to be headache-inducing. Representing the serene side of op art, Larry June’s Life is Beautiful LP is a mesmerising visual treat with a delightfully smooth soundtrack to match. From the cognitive to the physiological, optical illusions are typically caused by our brain misinterpreting information, leading to visual displays that amaze and confuse. Bringing his stunning album art to life, Larry June’s vinyl is a prime example of stunning design right down to the fine details. Featuring a painterly rendition of the Life is Beautiful LP cover, the vinyl features a static repeated image of June at sea in a boat. When played, the artwork springs to life, creating an animated Phi Phenomenon effect as if the boat is sailing smoothly off the record.
The Stone Roses Debut Single To Be Re-Issued On Vinyl For The First Time: The Stone Roses’ debut single will be re-issued on vinyl for the first time this month. Initially released in 1985, ‘So Young’ and ‘Tell Me’ represent the iconic Manchester band’s earliest release, and the songs are more rooted in their goth-leaning youth than the incendiary funk-driven indie-psych that would power their debut album. The release is, nonetheless, a moment in pop history, albeit one the band have rarely returned to. ‘So Young’ and ‘Tell Me’ haven’t been re-issued, meaning prices for the original have reached eye-watering levels – in fact, there’s one on Discogs right now for £350. Now fans will be able to pick up a seldom-seen piece of the band’s discography. Thin Line (their original label) have teamed up with Vinyl Revival (a fantastic record shop and label based in Manchester) to re-release the band’s debut single for the first official release since 1985.
Deutsche Grammophon’s Original Source Series Reissues Chopin And Mussorgsky On Vinyl: The reissues include Chopin’s four-movement ‘Cello Sonata op. 65’ and Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures At An Exhibition.’ Back in 2023, legendary classical label Deutsche Grammophon celebrated their 125th anniversary by launching the Original Source Series. The series is dedicated to reissuing legendary recordings from the 1970s for the first time, cut directly from the 4-track ½ inch masters, rather than the stereo ¼ inch tape copies. Newly available releases from the project include works from Chopin, Schumann, Mussorgsky, and Prokofiev. Chopin & Schumann: Works for Cello and Piano is an inspired collaboration between pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Composed in 1845-46, Chopin’s four-movement Cello Sonata op. 65 is evidence of his gift for lyrical piano writing. The work displays a deep understanding of the character of the cello, despite the fact that at the outset his creative concepts had been wholly pianistic in origin.
