North Lancashire, UK | Closure announced of Lancaster city centre record store: Owners of a record shop in Lancaster city centre have announced its closure. Forty Five Records, based in the Kings Arcade on King Street, first opened in 2023 before moving into a bigger unit in the shopping arcade in 2025. As well as selling new and pre-owned vinyl records across multiple musical genres, the premises was also known for its coffee shop and live DJ sets—as well as promoting music nights at other venues in the city. Forty Five’s programme of events will continue and they also aim to carry on their online record store.

Coachella Valley, CA | Physical Music Mecca: A New Record Store in the High Desert Backs Up an Impressive Collection With Community Support. Up on the Sun Records, the newest record shop in Yucca Valley, is a vinyl-lovers dream! There are thousands of titles, deep shelves for every music genre you can think of, plenty of original presses—and a solid selection of local music. You can also add to your cassette collection, browse posters and VHS tapes, and even test-drive records at the shop’s listening station. The shop has quickly become a home for listening parties and in-store performances from both local and touring artists. At 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, you can catch MSHR and The Tenses perform.

San Diego, CA | Analog Brings Vinyl and Tattoos Together in North Park: The business officially opened on September 26, with an unofficial grand opening planned for October 24. Analog, a vinyl record store and tattoo space, has officially opened in San Diego’s North Park at 2939 El Cajon Blvd. …For Tara, bringing records and tattoos together came from a shared connection to personal expression. She grew up listening to records because of her parents and has always viewed music as something tied closely to memories, people, places, and different periods of her life. When she decided to open a record store, she wanted to create something that went beyond a traditional music shop. “Music and tattoos are both incredibly personal forms of expression, they can both represent a memory, a feeling or a specific point in someone’s life,” Tara tells What Now San Diego.

UK | National Album Day 2026: Robbie Williams announced as ‘Album Icon’ with special ‘Sing When You’re Winning’ vinyl reissue: “Ask any artist, albums still matter… That’s why I’m happy to be part of this year’s National Album Day celebrating the art of the album.” National Album Day has announced Robbie Williams as the recipient of the ‘Album Icon’ title, and confirmed a special vinyl reissue of ‘Sing When You’re Winning’ to mark the milestone. …This year will mark the ninth edition since the event launched in 2018, and is once again presented in association with BBC Radio 2. It is also organised jointly by the BPI – the UK association of record companies and independent labels (BRIT Awards and Mercury Prize) and ERA, the digital entertainment and retail association (Record Store Day). This year’s theme will be “Icons”, and it has been announced today (Tuesday, October 6) that Robbie Williams will be named Album Icon.

Buffalo, NY | “Sessions” at Revolver Records welcomes all: To share hip-hop and community. Just off the release of self-titled album Daniel, Daniel Bonilla—better known as Neftali—teamed up with Revolver Records for the third installment of his Supply Drop Pop-Up show series. This time around, the event—which featured performances by close Neftali’s collaborators like artist Blametheviceroy and producer Puh-Geez—incorporated an in-house band for the first time. The unique exchange of hip-hop and live instrumentation struck a chord with musician and Revolver Records employee Dominic Missana and sparked the idea for what would become the Sessions shows. “I love hip-hop, and I love live music,” Missana shares.

Normal, IL | Local record store cat warms customers hearts: For over a decade, Normal residents have flocked to Waiting Room Records to say hi to their 11-year-old celebrity, Murph, the muted tortoiseshell cat. Murph has lived in the store since 2016and is the store’s third cat. “She lives here fulltime. She gets full rein of the record store at night,” general manager Maddie Chaudron said. “So yeah, she has it pretty good. She gets the whole store.” Waiting Room Records owner Jason Alcorn pays Murph’s medical bills. She has her own living area with a bed in the back room of the store. Murph has become so accustomed to the store’s atmosphere that even when the doors are wide open, she will not run off.

Marquette, MI | Vinyl lovers and more invited to dig through the Record Dungeon Show: Spooky feels and collectible treasures await Sunday, October 11 for the Record Dungeon Show. 12 vendors will be on hand selling thousands of items like records, VHS and DVDs, posters, comics and much more for enthusiasts of different areas. This is the first time since 2022 these vendors are coming together. “The idea that we’re all helping each other out and that everybody has something different, something unique, that we want people to come take a look at too,” said Jon Teichman, Owner, The Emporium.” The show will be held on Oct. 11 in the “dungeon” (basement) of Landmark Inn from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sticking with the spooky vibe, costumes are optional.

Organised by local independent label and vinyl distributor Mosta Records, the one-day event will bring together collectors, record dealers, independent labels and music enthusiasts from the country and around the region. …The fair will feature various types of music in other physical formats, too. There will be 37 vendors at The Vinyl Souk, selling new, pre-loved and rare vinyl records alongside CDs, cassettes, music posters, merchandise and memorabilia.

St Joseph, MN | St. Cloud Record Show brings vinyl collectors together this Saturday at Bad Habit Brewing: The St. Cloud Record Show is taking place Saturday, October 10 from noon-4pm at Bad Habit Brewing in St. Joseph with free admission. The organizer of the event, Tim Schloe from Twin Cities Record show joined me on WJON to discuss. Schloe started collecting records in the 1980s while in college and has been involved in record events for 23 years. He says records continue to be popular and CDs have made a resurgence especially with Gen-Z. Schloe believes more and more people want to own a physical copy of music as opposed to being dependent on digital music services who can remove songs. The St. Cloud Record Show will feature six vendors offering a variety of record albums, 45 RPM records, CDs and music memorabilia.
