UK | Record Store Day 2025: When is it, Scottish participating shops, available records, how to buy, and can you buy online? Record Store Day has become a major event for vinyl lovers since the inaugural event in the US in 2007 sold barely more than 10 different limited edition pressings by artists including Death Cab for Cutie, R.E.M. and Stephen Malkmus. Now over 200 independent record stores across the UK take part each year, selling thousands of copies of exclusive vinyl, from new releases to old classics. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s event.

Sarasota, FL | Record collector turns passion into retail with Vinyl Vault: The vintage record store held its grand opening March 2, inviting The Garbage-Men band for a performance. When he found a space in an old plaza near Downtown Sarasota, Brad Schalk decided it was the perfect retro spot to house vintage records. He had started collecting records in high school before he moved into selling them. On March 2, his store, Vinyl Vault, held its grand opening celebration. While the new store has around 20,000 vintage records in stock, he hopes it will also serve as a hub for the community, offering “open mics and kind of a community outreach.” “I want to be a touchstone for the community to bring collections in that maybe they don’t know much about, and then feature that stuff,” he said.

Howick, NZ | Next vinyl records fair spins in Howick: Howick Village is the place to be this Saturday for enthusiasts and collectors of vinyl records and other music products and memorabilia. The next East FM Vinyl Fair is staged in the Howick Information Centre / War Memorial Building at the town square where the Howick Village Market is held, in Picton Street, on March 8, from 8.30am to 2.30pm. Friendly vinyl record traders are coming from miles around to make available their excellent selections, and sellers’ tables are booked out, so the choice of 33rpm and 45rpm records for buyers will be extensive. Buyers are advised that East FM has no EFTPOS facility at the venue, though some traders have their own machines, so it’s suggested that using cash is the way to make purchases.

Patina puts a vinyl record simulator in your browser for free: It took decades, but we freed ourselves from analog formats and sound degradation and entered a perfect digital world online. So, let’s use our Web browser to add all the sound artifacts of vinyl back in, for free! Here’s the surprise. Patina runs in a browser, and it may be free of charge, and it may even let you upload sounds for processing and download the results. But if you’re expecting that means this is a crude proof of concept, think again. It sounds surprisingly realistic. Co-developer Al Hug, who built this with his friend Faison, writes us: Give it a spin. Of course, we love what we created, but the feedback we’ve been getting from folks is overwhelming. Some are calling it the best vinyl simulator out there and are begging us to make it into a plugin version.
