Newark, DE | Wonderland Records owner planning live music venue in downtown Newark: Two decades after the demise of the Stone Balloon, live music may soon be returning to Newark. This week, Wonderland Records owner Demitri Theodoropoulos announced plans to open a dedicated live music venue in the downtown area. The announcement comes as the city is advancing legislation that would legalize such businesses. “This is for the community and for the musicians, because there are so many good bands coming up in this area, and they’re driven underground in these basement shows,” Theodoropoulos said. Called Stella’s—named for Theodoropoulos’s black lab/border collie mix—the venue aims to open in late fall.

Brighton, UK | Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds announce takeover of Brighton’s Resident record store: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds are set to take over Resident, Brighton’s beloved independent record shop, in celebration of their homecoming show in Preston Park on 31 July. As part of the festivities, Resident will host a merchandise pop-up with new and existing items to buy, including a limited edition vinyl release and a range of merch specifically designed for the Brighton show, such as a tote bag made in collaboration with the shop. Resident will also offer discounts across the band’s catalogue, host giveaways, and offer a post box where fans can send physical letters to Nick Cave’s The Red Hand Files.

Bury, UK | Black Mirror star’s band Gustaffson performing Elbow-produced album at Wax & Beans: Acclaimed northern band Gustaffson are heading to Bury this summer for a special live acoustic performance at Wax & Beans. The Liverpool-founded, Manchester-based five-piece will perform songs from their debut album Black & White Movie at the Bury record store on Sunday, August 23, before meeting fans and signing records following the show. The event will give local music fans a chance to experience one of the region’s most talked-about emerging acts in an intimate setting. Elbow’s Craig Potter, who produced the album, will also take part in a Q&A.
Brooklyn, NY | “A melting pot of dance music cultures:” How Archivo Records became a hub for electronic music in Brooklyn. The beloved shop gets a second life in East Williamsburg. As one of the few record stores in New York City devoted to electronic music—and stocked with rare, vintage underground vinyls—Archivio is a regular hit for some of the world’s top touring DJs when they’re in Brooklyn. From hometown heroes The Martinez Brothers to international selectors like tINI, Desyn, and Dyed Soundorom, the store has become a destination for everyone from casual collectors to dedicated diggers. Archivio is a record store, of course, but it’s also a music label, party series, art studio and cultural space. At one point, it even housed a barber shop and tattoo parlor. But for all its acclaim—including the New York Times naming it one of six hidden shops in New York worth visiting—Archivio’s biggest challenge may have been just that: It was hidden.
Cleveland, OH | Wax & Tracks Fest Announces Live Maggot Brain Performance and Limited 600-Copy Midwest Vinyl Variant: Wax & Tracks Fest, a free outdoor vinyl and independent music festival, will feature a live performance of Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain in its entirety on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at The Vinyl Groove Records, 5100 Pearl Rd, Cleveland, OH 44129. Cleveland indie band Apostadelic, led by Apostle Jones frontman Mikey Silas, will open the festival at noon with the full album performance—a nod to the Cleveland radio tradition of playing Maggot Brain at midnight, a ritual that began on 100.7 WMMS in 1976 and continues today on 98.5 WNCX.
