Alexandria, VA | Crooked Beat Records reopening in new Del Ray home this weekend: Crooked Beat Records is reopening in a new location in Del Ray this weekend. Owner Bill Daly announced on social media that the store will be open at 2101B Mount Vernon Avenue on Friday, Sept. 25, from 4-7 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. “It’s like the Twilight Zone, same colors, same atmosphere,” Daly said in a video on Wednesday. “We’re excited about everything, and it’s going to be a work in progress. And we should be open for full time in about a week or so.” The new space, a two-story townhouse with 950 square feet, has been vacant for more than a decade, according to neighbors. In May, Daly was forced to close his previous basement location up the street at 2417 Mount Vernon Avenue after significant flooding in January.

Liverpool, UK | Liverpool store ‘overwhelmed with love’ after winning ‘UK best’ award: The Liverpool-based record store and live music venue operator was founded in 2015 by Graham Stanley. Jacaranda Records has been awarded Best Independent Record Store at the Independent Music Awards. Organised by the Association for Independent Music (AIM), the 16th edition of the Independent Music Awards was held at London’s Roundhouse last night (September 22). Jacaranda Records was founded in 2015 by Graham Stanley. Today Jacaranda has two record shops, two venues, and a bar, made up of the iconic Jacaranda Club on Slater Street and the newer Jacaranda Baltic in Cains Brewery. The original Jacaranda on Slater Street is credited with a key role in launching The Beatles’ early careers and first opened in 1958.

New Paltz, NY | The Good Times Roll at Bad Time Records: On Sept. 19, Bad Time Records joined a wide collection of record stores that call the Hudson Valley home. The space on Church Street sits between Beans Cat Cafe and All Creatures Veterinary Hospital, a cozy spot whose small dimensions do not confine the array of records and books that can be found inside. It is owned and managed by Mike Sosinski, longtime member of the ska-punk band Kill Lincoln and champion of the ska music genre since he founded his record label, Bad Time Records, in 2018. Sosinski’s mission focuses on delivering for people who already love ska and introducing it to people who know nothing about the genre, treating it with a sense of dignity that contradicts how it has been portrayed in the past.

Aberdeen, UK | Shoppers slam ‘gutting news’ as popular Scottish vinyl store announces closure: The store shared the announcement on Facebook. A popular vinyl store in Aberdeen has just announced it will be closing down. It has left loyal customers distraught at what they have called “gutting news.” Maidinvinyl took to Facebook earlier today (September 23) to share in a statement that it would be permanently shuttering its shop on Rosemount Viaduct. There is also a second stall at the Errol Sunday Market that has not been affected and will remain open as normal. The move has been made due to “ongoing cost increases” that the business “can no longer sustain.”

Baton Rouge, LA | Baton Rouge record shop event spotlights jazz, country and R&B: A local record shop is bringing live music to its store next month for an event called “And All That Jazz.” Classic Vinyls is hosting the event on Oct. 21, featuring the LSU Jazz Professors, Grammy nominee Quiana Lynell, Louisiana Hall of Fame country singer Kendall Shaffer and R&B/hip-hop artists KnightShift Krewe. Classic Vinyls owner John Ruiz said the event is being put on in the spirit of unity and collaboration and is free to anyone who would like to attend.

Wrexham, UK | Huge record fair returning to Wrexham with 30+ stalls: A huge record fair featuring more than 30 stalls is returning to Wrexham this weekend. Tŷ Pawb will welcome record dealers from across the UK on Saturday, September 26, with thousands of vinyl records expected to be up for grabs throughout the day. Organisers say the fair will feature records spanning different eras and genres, giving collectors the chance to search for everything from bargains to harder-to-find releases. In a post promoting the event, Tŷ Pawb said: “Come along and explore a treasure trove of records from 30+ stalls consisting of the UK’s top record dealers who will be selling vinyl of all eras and genres. “Come find a bargain or that rare record you’ve been chasing.”

4 Disadvantages Of Using A Cheap Record Player: Record players have stood the test of time for music lovers and media collectors. That’s because vinyl records sound better than digital audio to discerning listeners. Additionally, vinyl records can last longer than CDs when stored properly. There’s a major caveat, though: the quality and longevity of a vinyl record largely depend on the quality of the record player. Using a cheap record player comes with some distinct disadvantages. It all comes down to how record players actually produce sound. A stylus reads grooves in the record to create vibrations, which are then converted into electrical signals that are amplified and made into sound. It’s an analog process that relies on physical moving parts, so each component matters when it comes to producing high-quality music.

London, UK | Pink Floyd’s legendary ‘Animals’ building to become concert venue: Pink Floyd’s album cover for 1977’s Animals has been an unforgettable image for many music fans for nearly 50 years. Now, the building pictured on the album art is set to become a concert venue. Apple announced today (Sept. 22) that they have opened a new state-of-the-art live music venue inside London’s legendary Battersea Power Station—which is already home to the company’s European headquarters. Apple Music Hall will offer fans a chance to see special intimate concert performances at the 600-capacity event space. “Apple’s deep love for music dates all the way back to the very beginning, from the launch of the iPod to the long-running iTunes Music Festival to the debut of Apple Music,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content shared in a press release.

Bad Company to Release Final Concert With Mick Ralphs on Vinyl and Digital: The album captures the band’s Oct. 29, 2016, concert at London’s O2 Arena. Bad Company will release Live in London on Nov. 13 on blue vinyl, CD, and digital platforms. The album captures the band’s Oct. 29, 2016, concert at London’s O2 Arena, which became guitarist Mick Ralphs’ final performance with the group. Ralphs suffered a stroke four days after the concert and never performed with Bad Company again. He died on June 23, 2025. “Both the fans and the band were in great form that night in London. The rapport with the audience was deeply felt, and they sang their hearts out,” said Paul Rodgers in a statement shared by the band. “Thinking back to that evening in retrospect, Mick’s song ‘Ready for Love’ was particularly moving, singing ‘Walking down this rocky road wondering where my life is leading’; little did we know that Mick would suffer a stroke just four days after this concert.”
