Charleston, SC | A Charleston record store owner has ALS. His wife is raising awareness with 150 painted rocks. …Most people in Charleston know him as the man behind Record Stop on King Street, someone who readily shared album recommendations, could procure hard-to-find titles and shared stories about the 1969 Woodstock festival and kissing Janis Joplin on the cheek backstage at Madison Square Garden. Berg was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, two years ago. The progressive neurodegenerative disease causes nerve cells to die and lose the ability to trigger specific muscles, which leads to muscle weakness and paralysis. There is no cure. Recently, as Berg’s illness has progressed, he’s stepped away from running Record Stop, and his daughter, Janelle Berg-Gomez, has taken over in his stead.

Seiko’s Latest Affordable Chronograph Is a Love Letter to Vinyl Records: This subtle display will appeal to physical media enthusiasts without going overboard. …For its latest release, the watchmaker has teamed up with the hit anime Bocchi the Rock!, transforming one of its affordable quartz chronographs into a surprisingly understated tribute to the music-focused series. And with just 300 examples being made, it’s also one of the more exclusive anime watches we’ve seen lately. Vinyl-inspired dials are nothing new in the watch world. Some of the most notable include Raymond Weil’s Beatles collab or the indie brand AndoAndoAndo’s quite-literal depiction of a turntable directly on your wrist.

Dutch turntable maker Miniot reinvented the Wheel. Should vinyl lovers care? Halfway through my conversation with Miniot’s Piet Kolkman at the 2026 Dutch Audio Event, I asked him a half-joking question: “How many of your customers died waiting for their prepaid turntables?” A few, he replied sunnily. In some cases, Miniot had ended up shipping the product to the customers’ children. Yeah, a six-year delay will do that. Kolkman, a talented tinkerer who is in his late 20s and has no education beyond high school, is the engineer behind Miniot, a Dutch turntable maker. In 2016, his father, Peter, a now-60-something designer, came up with an idea for a turntable he called the Wheel.
