Norman, OK | A&E: Norman’s only independent record store celebrates special day: …On April 18, Guestroom Records celebrates Record Store Day, opening early at 10 a.m. with hundreds of new exclusive releases on hand. The event recognizes the special culture of independent record stores. In past years, people have lined up on Main Street before the doors are unlocked. Much of the inventory will be marked down up to 40%. Free refreshments will be provided and there will be an on-site T-shirt printing event by Oscillator Press. …“We’re busier now than in the past,” he said. “For the first ten years we were a niche business. We were selling music right at the height of Napster when everybody was sharing MP3 files and getting music for free. Berlin, MD | Berlin to host festival for Record Store Day: Music is set to pour out of Berlin’s downtown later this month, when the town celebrates Record Store Day with lineup of performances, food and drinks, and vendors selling books, clothes and home decor all aligned with the vintage spirit of the vinyl-inspired festival. Saturday, April 18, marks Record Store Day, an international semi-annual event celebrated by independent vinyl shops. The intent is to bring together fans and small businesses through the release of special and limited-edition records, fostering appreciation for music and vinyl, a more vintage method of play. For the third year in a row, the Town of Berlin will recognize the celebration with an all-day musical event kicking off at 11 a.m. and winding down around 4 p.m.
Ballarat, AU | Live music and vinyl fair for Record Store Day: In a definite keeper for the diaries of local music lovers, World Record Store Day is poised to drop at Kank Wolverang Records, Saturday 18 April. The day gets started from 10.30am with a line-up of live artists playing out the front of the shop from 11am to 4pm, and a record fair with multiple stall holders in the Kank Wolverang gallery space out back. Alexandria, VA | Devastating Flood Forces Del Ray Record Store To Move: Crooked Beat Records in Del Ray will be closing its doors and looking for a new location after flooding damaged the business. Crooked Beat Records in Del Ray has announced that it will close its doors in the neighborhood and look for a new location. The store suffered a flood in January that destroyed valuable inventory, as well as equipment and fixtures, and has been open only for limited hours since then. Despite launching a limited edition merchandise line to raise money and starting a GoFundMe fundraiser that raised to date nearly $23,000, Crooked Beat hasn’t been able to recover. The store says its last day at 2417 Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray will be Sunday, May 3.
